Direct KiSS 1.1.1
This is the official release of DirectKiSS 1.1.x. This release fixes a bug where DirectKiSS would not build an LZH file even though it says it did (change log). DirectKiSS v1.1 uses DirectX 8.1 and works under Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit). DirectKiSS v1.1 has not been tested and will not be supported under older versions of Windows. DirectKiSS v1.1 apparently does not work under Windows 8. I don't have this operating system so I can't test it myself. Note that under Windows Vista/Windows 7 on some machines, any KiSS artform loaded may appear to be blank or almost all one color (it may look as though nothing is loaded). If this occurs then go to the Options dialog box under the Tools menu, select the Video tab and then select the option Force Palette Emulation next time Direct KiSS starts up. Exit DirectKiSS and start it again. Direct KiSS v1.1 was developed by Stephen P. Lepisto with the permission of Dov Sherman and may be redistributed only in unmodified form at no cost. To see what version of DirectX you have on your system, download and run getdxver.exe. Note: DirectX 9.0c can be installed on Windows Vista and Windows 7 without conflicting with DirectX 10 or 11. The DirectKiSS v1.1 installer contains DirectX 9 and will install it if required. |

Direct KiSS 1.0.1
Direct KiSS is a new KiSS viewing program which supports LZH, Enhanced Palette, CKiSS, and the new FKiSS4. Direct KiSS runs under Windows 98/2000, ME, NT, or XP systems. DirectKiSS v1.0.1 apparently does not work under Windows 8. I don't have this operating system so I can't test it myself. Direct KiSS uses DirectX 8.1 or higher to display KiSS sets so it requires a computer with a good video card capable of running DirectX 8.1. Performance will vary depending on your video card. This slightly updated version of Direct KiSS will now support 16-bit video chipsets. If you have a 32-bit video card, you can stick with Direct KiSS 1.0.0. If you tried to use Direct KiSS before and it crashed as soon as you tried to load a doll, Direct KiSS 1.0.1 may solve this problem. Since Direct KiSS uses DirectX 8.1, please be sure that your video drivers are up-to-date. If your drivers are too old, they may not be able to support DirectX 8.1 applications. You can obtain new drivers for free from the website of your video card manufacturer. If you need DirectX 8.1, you can download the most recent version of DirectX for free from the Microsoft Download Center. (If you run Direct KiSS and it gives you an error message saying that it can't find D3D8.DLL, you don't have DirectX 8.1.) If you are unable to get the self-installing version of Direct KiSS to work, please use the ZIP version which can be installed manually. Please note: Direct KiSS is not compatible with S3 Graphics cards. Direct KiSS was developed by Dov Sherman and may be redistributed only in unmodified form at no cost. |

PlayFKiSS 0.81
A few people seem to be having trouble getting the newer version 0.83b beta to work so here's the previous version 0.81 to fall back on in an emergency. The problems with 0.83b are rare and will only affect a very small percentage of computers. If you haven't tried 0.83b, try 0.83b first. This one is an older version. It has more bugs. PlayFKiSS is free for personal use but it is not "freeware" and may not be redistributed without the express, written permission of Chad Randall. To Install: Run PlayFKiss081-Installer.exe, then run the Install Common Controls program in the PlayFKiSS folder. If you're replacing 0.83b beta, be sure to uninstall that version first through the Control Panel. |
